Statewide Reform
As a result of 2009 legislation, the Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon Health Policy Board were created with specific mandates to accomplish intermediate goals leading to a “blueprint” for universal health care by 2015.
In preparing for the 2011 legislative session, MACG is an active member of the Oregon Healthcare Advocacy Allies and serves on this group’s steering committee. The OHAA goals are:
1. To advocate successfully with the key health care reform decision makers (Oregon Health Policy Board, Oregon Health Authority and legislators) for the development of legislation by December 2010 that is consistent with our Common Ground Priorities for affordable, quality, accountable, equitably financed, portable, comprehensive, and accessible health care for all people in Oregon by 2015 and that has population health as an end-goal.
2. To advocate with decision-makers for specific policy choices consistent with our Priorities in critical implementation components.
3. To ensure the elimination of disparities in health outcomes.
4. To ensure that the majority of Oregon legislators and the Governor embrace and work to enact the Health Policy Board recommendations during the 2011 legislative session.
MACG supports the OHAA policy positions about the Health Care Insurance Exchange, the Essential Benefits Package and the Public Option. We are participating in building relationships with the OHPB members.
