In response to a critical shortage of housing for domestic violence survivors, MACG, Clackamas County is opening its first house to address this need. Funds have been raised to pay the initial lease agreement and physically prepare the house. Additional houses will be opened as funds are available. Currently donations of gently used items and money are being solicited to furnish the first house. Clackamas Womens Services (CWS), Recovery Association Project (RAP)1, and MACG are working together to identify residents, provide leadership training and acquire donated items and funds.
The house is provided so that six women will have a safe place to live and recover from a domestic violence situation. The house will enable eligible women to make the transition from Clackamas Womens Services to self-sufficiency. The house will operate democratically so normal family like relationships and skills can develop. Clients of the house will work and pay rent while living in the residence so that the house becomes a self-sustaining operation.
DONATIONS: New and gently used furniture, appliances, housewares and initial supplies (385 items) are needed furnish the house. To facilitate coordination of the needed donations, the "Free Gift Registry" web site is available. The site will assist donors identify the ways they can help with specific items or with funds. Donation collection sites for small items are listed below. Pick up for larger items can be arranged. If you do not have access to the web, you can make your donation offer by phone.
